Mrs. Clark’s 7th Grade Bible Class Discusses:

The Bible and the Telephone Game

The Variant Reading Myth

The Telephone Game is a team building activity where a group of people get in a line and a message is passed down the line. As the phrase is passed down the words become warped. A sentence that might have started as “drink your water or you’ll become dehydrated’” may become “the monkey worked on the hydrostatic.”

While this a fun and harmless game it has since become applied to the Bible.

Some people claim that the Bible has become warped as it was passed down over the ages.

This is false.

As Josh McDowell said in Don’t Check Your Brains at the Door, “The Bible is unquestionably the gold standard for reliability among documents dating from antiquity”.

The New Testament was written over a period of 50 years during 50- 100 A.D. with the earliest copies written at 130 A.D. with 24000 copies written. The 2nd best is the Iliad with 643 copies written over 500 years.

“When you compare the New Testament with other ancient works,
its reliability is immediately obvious.”

Know what you believe…and why you believe it.

Don’t Check Your Brains at the Door gives teens answers that make sense, even for the toughest of questions:
  • Does it really matter what you believe, as long as you have faith?
  • Are there errors in the Bible?
  • Was Jesus just a good teacher?
  • Can anyone prove His resurrection?
  • What does that have to do with me?
Using clarity and humor Josh McDowell and co-author Bob Hostetler expose common myths about God, the Bible, religion, and life to show how Christianity stands up to the test of fact and reason.
With these solid evidences teens will be better understand the faith they live and know what they believe and why.
